Frequently Asked Questions

Sharps Disposal Systems

What are the most cost-effective solutions for managing medical waste disposal in a small healthcare practice?

For most small healthcare practices, the most cost-effective medical waste disposal solution is a prepaid mail-back program. Mail-back systems are specifically designed for small or irregular waste generators, such as dental offices, med spas, veterinarian clinics, and small clinics, who do not produce enough waste to justify scheduled truck pickups or long-term onsite storage.

With PureWay’s FDA-approved mail-back sharps and medical waste containers, your practice receives mailable, compliant containers along with prepaid return packaging and shipping labels. Once the container is full, you simply seal it and send it back using USPS-compatible packaging. There is no pickup coordination, no minimums, and no surprise fees.

Mail-back programs offer several cost-saving advantages:

  • Low upfront costs compared to traditional pickup services
  • Predictable per-shipment pricing with no hidden fees
  • Simple logistics that eliminate scheduling trucks or storing waste for extended periods
  • Compliance built-in, including tracking and certificates of disposal
  • Ideal for small-volume generators who need safe, affordable disposal options

This is the most cost-effective solution for small waste volumes. For most small practices, a prepaid mail-back or mail-back sharps disposal program is the cheapest, simplest, and most compliant way to manage medical waste.

Does PureWay offer comprehensive medical and pharmaceutical waste disposal services with regular pickup options?

Yes, PureWay offers comprehensive medical and pharmaceutical waste disposal services with scheduled pickup options. We provide regulated medical waste collection, sharps disposal programs, pharmaceutical waste solutions, and full compliance support for single facilities and multi-site enterprises. We also offer recurring pickups with end-to-end transport, treatment, and disposal to keep your facility safe and compliant.

What goes into smaller collection containers vs. larger collection containers? Can I dump my loose sharps into one of the larger collection container systems?

Individual sharps, like needles and lancets, as well as other used healthcare materials, may be disposed of in our smaller FDA-approved containers. Collection containers over 3 gallons may not contain loose sharps – these large collection containers are designed to hold several smaller collection containers. You must first secure all sharps in a container under 3 gallons, then place those containers into the larger collection container system for disposal.

Where can I find a service that offers environmentally friendly treatment of medical waste for a healthcare facility?

PureWay Compliance offers environmentally friendly medical waste treatment solutions for healthcare facilities nationwide. As a leading provider of medical waste disposal, we offer sustainable processes such as autoclaving, high-efficiency incineration, and landfill-free disposal options to ensure safe and eco-conscious handling.

Our sustainability program focuses on minimizing environmental impact at every stage. After waste is decontaminated, we have recycling options that can provide between 45-85% recycling. Doing so significantly reduces what enters the waste stream. We also operate with a strong commitment to lowering our carbon footprint through continuous process improvements and green-facility initiatives.
